Do You Have Whiplash?

Whiplash is a commonly used term for a neck strain that happens due to a motor vehicle related accident, typically when the vehicle is hit from behind.  It is triggered by the motion of your head being thrown backward and then forward very suddenly and with great force.

It wasn’t always taken as seriously as it should be, not until recently when physicians discovered that whiplash can include problems such as joint dysfunction, disc herniation, faulty movement patterns, and cognitive and higher center dysfunction. Whiplash is not only painful but it has the ability to completely alter your pattern of living.

Some of the symptoms may include inhibited range of motion and tightness in the neck, tenderness, dizziness, blurred vision, ringing in the ears, headaches and even trouble sleeping.  The symptoms may not be evident immediately following the accident, so be listening to your body for a few days after.  It can also cause a concussion, so it is very important to see a doctor if you think you may have whiplash.
