Do not ignore injuries following an auto collision
By Dr. J. Arden Blough
Back, neck and shoulder injuries are some of the most common conditions in motor vehicle collisions. As such, people should always concern themselves with pain in these regions of the body. Although the injuries are common, ignoring their symptoms could lead to greater damage in the future, including chronic pain and the development of arthritis.
Pain in the back, shoulder and neck can be caused by different factors. Overexertion of the body can lead to strains. An overuse of tendons may result in tendonitis. Shoulder dislocation, upper-arm fractures, and collarbone fractures can all adversely affect a healthy neck and back. Each of these conditions (or any other that affects the neck, back or shoulders) should be medically evaluated.
The back, neck and shoulder are very susceptible areas of the body in auto and motorcycle accidents. Their structure and mobility make them more prone to injuries that may require rehabilitation. Accident victims should be highly aware of this reality when they experience back, neck and shoulder pain.
